I love the fun of Halloween! Carving pumpkins, making costumes, it's all such a great way to spend time as a family and with friends and neighbors...however, I'm not a huge fan of buckets full of candy. There's nothing wrong with a treat here and there but little person doesn't need a whole bucket full in one night (or a few nights in a row if you do different events). We know of families who do the "Switch Witch" and swap out candy for gifts and while I like the idea in theory, we don't do make believe characters like that. So...we started a new tradition.
We still swap out our candy for a little toy but after Halloween, we gather up all of our treats (after sampling a reasonable amount) and take them to our local police and fire department. The officers are always happy to have some treats to munch on and it's a great way to say thank you for all of their hard work. Plus, the kids love getting to see the fire trucks and police cars up close.
This year we are giving each of the kids a new Bathtub Pal but we have all kinds of great items in the shop that the Switch Witch, or you could give your kids in place of the candy.
What are you planning this Halloween?
